It was a little more than a "moment" but not much.
Kerouac Drive was another band I ended up in mostly out of desperation to be playing. These guys were a long way from me as far as travel distance. Music too. It was very pop/college oriented and in fact, college campus events were the biggest thing we did in the few shows we did. The thing with this band was that the music was ALL original and all written by the singer/guitar player. Another "Mike". He wanted to basically be a star with a backing band, and that was ok, except all original doesn't fly well for gig getting. The idea was to play what gigs we could strictly to make money to record a CD of all Mikes music. Ok fine. Initially everyone was on board with this. We set up a record company, a bank account and all of that business and played and put the money in the bank. Till it all blew up. The drummer's wife got on him about traveling to play and not getting paid. He didn't know how to deal with her so he got stupid with us instead and said he was quitting and he wanted his part of the money out of the bank account. Like that was going to happen. He had also given me a cymbal for a drum set I had bought and he wanted that back too. Like that was going to happen. The end of the story happened when we couldn't find another drummer and Mike decided we should just have different drummers in different areas and then where ever we booked we'd have a guy close by. Of course meaning we would have to go to all these locations and teach all these different drummers the music and rehearse and all of that. Like that was going to happen. End of story. |
